BIO
Hi! I’m Suki. My real name is Somar and my Thai name is Baitong but I also respond to “free food”.
I’m a comedian, writer, and teaching artist based out of South Florida.
I write script stuff like screenplays, commercials, digital assets, and unscripted content. Drawing from my background in comedy and growing up as an only child, I’m proficient in crafting words that help people buy your stuff, come to your party, or pay attention to you.
I teach screenwriting at the University of Miami. My students refer to me as DJ Professor Suki. I’ve also taught sketch comedy writing at Speak Easy Theater Company, Actors Repertory, Black Improv Alliance, Villain Theater, and various other theatre training programs across South Florida. In 2017 I partnered with Exchange for Change to teach sketch writing at Homestead Correctional Institution which was my favorite teaching experience to date.
I perform improv, stand-up, and sketch comedy at Speak Easy Theater Company. I harbor a deep affinity for experimental comedy which is influenced by my love of the Neo-Futurists in Chicago. It also explains my tendency to do things like set up an “Unsolicited Advice from Suki” booth at an art festival.
I am very professional: I received my B.A in Theatre Arts from Rollins College and an M.F.A in Motion Picture from the University of Miami. I keep miniature diplomas in my wallet.
I’m also a graduate of Second City Chicago and the Peoples Improv Theatre in NYC.
In conclusion, here are pictures of my dogs Lillian Coppola Van Chicken Wing (hawt dog) and Bill Murray Panang Curry (burger dawg).
